October 17, 2024: In a much-anticipated announcement, Bollywood actor and politician Kangana Ranaut revealed on Thursday that her film Emergency has finally received the green light from the Censor Board of Film Certification after the proposed cuts were done by the film maker. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the release date will be announced shortly, bringing this biographical political thriller one step closer to the big screen.

Directed by Ranaut and featuring a gripping narrative, the movie delves into the tumultuous period of 1975-1977 when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed a state of emergency in India. The film has faced several hurdles, with its initial release date having to be postponed due to delays in obtaining the necessary certification.

Ranaut expressed her feelings about the delay on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support.”

The journey hasn’t been without challenges. The film faced criticism from some Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, who accused it of misrepresenting the community’s history. Despite the backlash, Ranaut and the team have worked diligently to address concerns, with actor-producer Shreyas Talpade emphasizing the importance of watching the film before forming an opinion. “The delay was truly disappointing,” he remarked. “In a democracy, everyone has a right to express their views, and we respect that.”

While the Censor Board had suggested cuts to the film, Shreyas confirmed that they are working to incorporate those changes, ensuring that the final product is well-received. “We want people to enjoy the film and come to theaters with an open heart,” he added.

Originally slated for release on September 6, Emergency faced challenges that required a reassessment of its launch. However, with the censor certificate now in hand, fans eagerly await the announcement of the new release date.

As anticipation builds, both Ranaut and Shreyas are committed to ensuring that the movie resonates with audiences while navigating the complexities of storytelling in a diverse country like India. The film aims not only to entertain but also to provoke thought about a significant chapter in Indian history.
