Thursday, July 2, 2026: With just days to go before its theatrical debut, Alpha has officially entered the box office race. Advance bookings opened on Wednesday, offering the first glimpse of audience interest in what is arguably one of the year’s most closely watched Hindi releases.

The early numbers suggest a measured rather than explosive start. According to Sacnilk, the Alpha has sold 11,255 tickets across 2,646 Hindi 2D shows, generating an estimated Rs 44.74 lakh gross in pure advance sales for opening day. Factoring in blocked seats, the estimated first-day advance booking rises to Rs 1.58 crore gross.

For a film carrying the weight of the YRF Spy Universe, the opening advance is respectable but not overwhelming. Much of the real momentum is expected to come through spot bookings and positive word of mouth, especially if the action and performances connect with audiences.

Maharashtra has emerged as the strongest market in pre-sales, contributing around Rs 35.83 lakh gross (including blocked seats), while Delhi is close behind with Rs 35.26 lakh gross. Telangana has also shown encouraging interest, adding nearly Rs 12.7 lakh gross to the tally.

What makes Alpha stand apart is its place in the YRF Spy Universe. Unlike previous entries led by male superstars, this marks the franchise’s first female-led action thriller, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari taking charge. The supporting cast, featuring Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, further strengthens the film’s appeal.

Expectations, however, extend beyond the opening-day numbers. After the mixed theatrical response to War 2, the franchise has an opportunity to regain momentum with a fresh narrative and a different dynamic. The success of Alpha will depend less on franchise branding alone and more on whether it delivers compelling action, engaging storytelling, and memorable characters.

The film also enjoys a relatively comfortable release window despite competition from Baby Do Die Do and the animated Hollywood title Minions & Monsters. If audience reactions are positive from the first few shows, Alpha could witness significant growth over the weekend.

At this stage, the advance bookings indicate cautious optimism rather than blockbuster certainty. The real verdict will begin unfolding once audiences step into theatres on July 3.
