Tuesday, July 7, 2026: Actor Kriti Sanon has opened up about a deeply personal decision she made while preparing for her National Award-winning film Mimi. During a recent conversation on Karishma Mehta’s podcast, Kriti revealed that she chose to freeze her eggs during a two-month break in the film’s schedule, calling it one of the smartest decisions she has made.

The actor shared that the timing worked perfectly as she was already required to gain weight for her role as a surrogate mother in Mimi. Since the treatment can also lead to bloating, she felt it made sense to go ahead with the procedure while she was away from work.

“I’m saying this for the first time. I froze my eggs. Very smartly, I did it during that time when I had to gain weight for Mimi. So it makes you bloat, and I spoke to someone who told me this is the best thing that you can do for yourself (if you can). It’s the best gift that you can give yourself,” Kriti said.

She added that the shooting break gave her enough time to recover without affecting her work commitments.

“I had two months of no shoot. All I’m supposed to do is gain weight, and this is a film on surrogacy. Let me just do it,” she recalled.

Kriti Sanon also spoke honestly about the physical and emotional changes she experienced during the treatment, which involves hormone injections before egg retrieval.

“There’s a point when you feel almost hormonally disrupted. Almost like a pregnant woman—your mood swings are going off the charts. I’m glad that I did because I don’t want to have that in my head,” she said.

The actor was around 29 years old when she underwent the procedure, an age that many fertility specialists consider suitable for egg freezing because egg quality is generally higher in the late 20s and early 30s.

Following Kriti’s revelation, many people have questioned whether gaining weight plays a role in the success of egg freezing. Fertility experts say that while body weight can influence reproductive health, deliberately putting on weight is not part of the treatment process. Instead, doctors recommend maintaining a healthy weight through a balanced diet, regular exercise, and proper management of existing medical conditions to support better outcomes.

Experts also advise anyone considering egg freezing to consult a fertility specialist early, as the decision depends on individual health, age, and future family planning goals.
