Ghoomketu movie review; It’s the climax that’s worth watching; After watching the movie the only thing that sticks to your mind is the climax. It leaves you wondering whether it was worth the watch from beginning, middle and to the climax. Well the only solace is the way the climax has been delivered.

Ghoomketu has a stellar line up of stars, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anurag Kashyap, Ila Arun, Raghubir Yadav, Swanand Kirkire and the director Pushpendra Nath Mishra has done its best to establish his characters well in the film. It does have its cliche moments, but some great peformance by Nawazuddin , Ila Arun and Raghubir Yadav saves the film.

Well it is the comic moments that though exaggerated was pulled off well by Nawazuddin.

The Story

Ghoomketu the story of an aspiring film writer from a small village in Uttar Pradesh who wants to script a story for Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. His dream chase is supported by his bua (Ila Arun). To top it the writer Nawaazuddin who is not so pleased with his better half with her plus-size new bride, runs away from home to chase his dreams. So, what does he have to become a movie writer – a book on writing for cinema and a freaky hairstyle, before he  lands in the city of dreams Mumbai and series of events follow.

Soon, after he lands in Mumbai Ghoomketu meets a producer who is willing to listen to his scripts. And, the saga begins as, Ghoomketu  starts working on scripts of a family drama, a horror film and a romance based on his own life experiences. It kinda becomes very crude from here on as the narrative is trying to present too many things at a time and ends up being a cliche.

As the aspiring Ghoomketu dreams to become the next big movie writer, his worried father (Raghubir Yadav) and uncle (Swanand Kirkire) use their contacts in the city to set the police after him. Corrupt Inspector Badlani (Anurag Kashyap) is tasked with bringing the errant man home and his whole cameo is plugged to tickle your laughing bones. The other thing that lets you down is the special effects which is of very low quality.

There is so much masala packed is that you might find it quite crazy, whether to laugh or go through it . Imagine the scenes : When Ghoomketu writes a drama, he is asked to deliver a comedy. When he does finish a comedy script, the producer wants him to write a Star Trek-style sci-fi fantasy with Spock lookalikes. What’s more, he also has a stab at the horror genre – a pretext for the film to serve up a detour into the heart of a movie presented by Bloodbath Films and titled Bloody Pool.

Then there are more scenes that is added to bring spice into the movie. As Ghoomketu tries his hand at romance, Ranveer Singh (a pale, callow shadow of today’s cocky star) and Sonakshi Sinha team up to pack a variation on the DDLJ train station climax scene.

Amitabh Bachchan, too, steps in to provide a fillip to the film’s flagging fortunes. He plays  a prosecution lawyer in a film-within-the-film. Chitrangada Singh and Lauren Gottlieb pop up too for blink-and-miss appearances. But all this adds no lasting lustre to the all-round vacuity.

Ghoomketu goes round in circles in search of a centre. Truly Ghoom, Ghoom, Ghoom and Ghoom not knowing when to stop.

The director does try hard to present the film as a comic-drama story , but with so many elements clinging loose it does becomes for the best director to hold on to the story. But , what makes the movie a worthy watch is the climax.

For ZEE5 this bait of releasing the 5 year old film is quite a gamble. Whether it plays of well for the audience it is for the audience to say it. Go watch it on ZEE5. You may like it for Nawaazuddin and Raghubir Yadav. They keep you engaged till the end.

We did like the climax worthy the time. But, we reserve the final say to the audience and viewers.
