Gulabo Sitabo Review: This Haveli Saga is a slow & steady stress buster; Vijay Raaz Excels
Shooji Sarkar movie Gulabo Sitabo, belongs to @ayushmannk and @SrBachchan, and the director has been able to combine all three to deliver one of their finest performances. All three combined well. The surprise of all is #BrijendraKala, #VijayRaaz and the lovely #FarrukhJaffar.
The movie has got mixed reactions from the watchers, one of them said: I laughed so hard and clapped so many times..I was sleepy but the story and brilliant performances kept me awake and entertained me to the purest joy!
The Story: Welcome to the World of Gulabo Sitabo where two slimy scheming foxes in a game of one upmanship, each one attracting other members to their clan and each one with an agenda of his own. Meet ‘Mirza’(Amitabh Bachchan) – a 78yrs old landlord, who would move heaven and earth for his most priced possession – an old Dilapidated Mansion in the heart of Lucknow.
But this garden of roses comes with its own cluster of ‘pricky thorns’ – tenants. Amongst them most prominently, ‘Baankey’ (Ayushmann Khuranna)’ a shrewd, sly and squatted tenant, who matches Mirza bit for bit in their ceaseless bantering.
Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky slice of life where Mirza and Baankey are like Tom and Jerry – unique and unmatched, friend and foe, naughty and smart, little and large, all combine to produce chaos. Gulabo Sitabo, the dramedy, premiered on June 12, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Frankly, there is not much of comedy dose in the movie.
Review: The movie pace out to a slow, steady and un energetic manner; however, what turns up the movie into high gear is the introduction of other entertaining characters Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala, Shrishti Shrivastava. After watching the film, we must say, that Gulabo Sitabo is a gentle stress buster, with great sparkling chemistry between the lead characters Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, the nerving contest betweetn Mirza and Baankey that will keep you pepped till the climax.
The backdrop of the movie is staged in a real , raw situation and you might find it very unlike of a masala , massy movie, but the story line leaves very little room for the director Shoojit to add the comic masala, which we get to see in the trailer. And, we didn’t find more that in the movie.
The single liner dialogues in the movie also creates great impact like this one “par permission hamara lagega”…. Vijay raj needs a single dialogue to steal the show….” He is quite brilliant.
“amma jao apni bakriyon ke saath bait jao, varna tokh denge” the ayushman dialogue is quite funny too. And, then the dialogue he delivers to Amitabh “’Chillao Mat Attack Aa Jayeega”.
Aur Amitabh at this age, dives into the character neck deep, his dialogue “ Mohabbat Karte Hai Hum Ye Haveli Se”
The music also gels well bringing the Lucknowi culture and tone of the rustic homes and streets.
The production values of the movie is quite good; as the production team of the movie have done commendable job in ensuring the realistic feel of vintage Fatima Manzil, moreover the #GulaboSitabo cinematographer has captured the hustle bustle of Old Lucknow brilliantly.
Story screenplay & Dialogue by Juhi Chaturvedi has an unpredictable, and exciting climax of Gulabo Sitabo does make you happy and satisfying after watching the more than 2 hours movie.
here is the trailer of the movie
Watch it if you love Amitabh, Ayushmann Khurrana, it is a different kind of a movie, that is very unlike of a massy , masaledar movies. Good, the makers decided to release it in Prime Video.
