After Sufiyum Sujatayum, two more Mollywood films featuring established actors are set to release movies on OTT platforms. And it’s not just the filmmaker and producers who have realised that OTT is the future, but actors too.
Nivin, whose film Moothon received rave reviews after it was finally released on OTT last month, is one of them. “The movie industry must keep evolving,” he says. “In the past, we used to shoot with film reels. When digital technology was introduced, during the transition period from celluloid to digital, not many were keen to adapt to the new method of filmmaking. One of the reasons cited was the visual quality of a movie shot in a 35mm film was far superior to the digital format. But over time, everybody adapted to the digital cinema.”
The Premam star says, “I think when a technology is introduced, people have a difficult time embracing it. When you talk about shifting to OTT platforms, people say it can never provide the theatrical experience. That is true because even if you are watching a movie with the best home theatre in the world within the four walls of your home, you are never going to get the experience of watching it in a packed cinema hall.”
