Coolie No.1 Review, While those who watched Govinda Karishma spell magic in the original varun dhawan and sara did what is best to entertain the new generation movie audience.

Twenty-five years have elapsed since the producer and director duo delivered one of the superhits that defined Govinda’s career as a comic hero. The star isn’t at hand to carry the weight of the remake on his shoulders nor is Kader Khan available to liven up Rumi Jaffery’s screenplay with his dialogue. However, their absence has not deterred David Dhawan to churn out a new age entertainer.

The new version is quite comical, and the performance of the lead actors are commendable knowing that they are in the shoes of the original pair. The 2020 Coolie No 1, released on Amazon Prime Video, does revive the magic of  1995 Coolie No 1.on in its own way.

The Govinda starrer was a slice of life comedy with an irresistible charm, impeccable comic timings, Kader Khan’s stupendous dialogues and natural funny vibe, the expectations were at its peak.

The story of Coolie No 1 remains the same with few changes in the location. This time it is about Rozario (played by Paresh Rawal) a rich hotelier in Goa who ends up insulting matchmaker Jaikishan (played by Jaaved Jaaferi). The latter decides to plan revenge and gets Rozario’s daughter Sarah (played by Sara Ali Khan) to fall in love with coolie Raju (played by Varun Dhawan).

David Dhawan has remade the story, scenes and dialogues, but he also played with some of the most iconic numbers from the original movie like ‘Husnn Hai Suhana’ and ‘Mirchi Lagi Toh’.

The story in brief: After being insulted by a rich businessman named Rosario, pandit Jai Kishen teaches him a lesson by getting his daughter married to Raju – a Coolie posing as a millionaire. Soon Raju’s real identity is exposed but he cooks up a story of having a filthy rich twin. One lie leads to another and things start to go out of hand.

COOLIE No. 1 is fun

Overall, if you do not compare the original  performances, of Govinda, Karisma, Kader Khan and David Dhawan’s original charm, this Coolie No 1 is a new shade for the modern era.

David Dhawan is truly the king of masala filled films. His movies are the most sought after by comic entertainers. Barring a few exceptions. His success rate is, without doubt, enviable.

COOLIE NO. 1 is strictly for those who relish crazy entertainers. Those with an appetite for movies that defy logic, motive and intellect. The funda is crystal clear: Entertain. Make you laugh. To transport you to a different world. The trailers had prepared us about what to expect and COOLIE NO. 1 lives up to those expectations.

COOLIE NO. 1 tells the story of a porter / coolie Raj [Varun Dhawan], who falls in love with Sara [Sara Ali Khan]. However, her father [Paresh Rawal] is extremely keen that she marries a millionaire. The porter pretends to be a tycoon, but the cat is out of the bag soon. What happens next?

Coolie No. 1 Review

The movie is quite punchy, what works is the chemistry between Varun and Paresh. That’s the prime reason why the proceedings work for most parts.

The writing is quite outrageous. The witty one-liners make sure you have a constant smile on your face. The soundtrack is energetic and the idea to retain the original songs from the 1995 movie [‘Mirchi Lagi To’, ‘Husn Hain Suhana’] is a master stroke, since these are timeless melodies.

Varun glides into the character effortlessly. The role demands that he plays to the gallery and the actor follows the diktat. The act may come across loud and at times, he may be overstepping the boundaries, but it works well in a film of this genre. Matching Varun is Paresh Rawal, who is an absolute joy to watch. In fact, the comic timing of the two actors is fantastic.

Watch it or not? Well, if you are a true blue Govinda fan, this movie might not be your popcorn movie. However, if you are looking for a Varun with a touch of Varun Dhawan’s charm, you can watch it.
