June 5, 2025: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is hogging the limelight once again as has announced his upcoming project with Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The two will work together on a large-scale action film, which is expected to begin production in the second half of 2026.
In a recent press interaction in Mumbai, Khan confirmed the collaboration, describing the film as a superhero action movie. “Lokesh and I are doing a film together. It’s a big-scale action outing. The film will begin in the second half of 2026. We have both signed it. I cannot reveal anything further,” he said.
This will mark Aamir Khan’s first project with Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his work in films like Kaithi, Master, Vikram, and Leo. Khan, who has previously been a part of action films such as Ghajini and Dhoom 3, will return to the genre with this new venture.
Apart from the action film with Kanagaraj, Khan is also expected to make a cameo appearance in Coolie, a Tamil film starring Rajinikanth. While details about his role remain unclear, Khan’s involvement in the project has generated considerable interest.
Aamir Khan Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic and Mahabharata Project
In addition to his work in the superhero film, Khan provided updates on his other projects. He confirmed that he and director Rajkumar Hirani are working on a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema.
Khan also shared that his long-term goal of adapting the Mahabharata for the screen is moving forward. “Mahabharat has been my dream for the last 25 years. It’s a project that will require extensive preparation, but I plan to begin work on it soon,” Khan explained.
Khan’s film Sitare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna, is set to release on June 20, 2025. The sports comedy, a sequel to Taare Zameen Par (2007), features Khan as a coach training a team of neurodivergent basketball players.
As Khan continues to line up multiple projects, the next few years promise a mix of action, biographical films, and ambitious adaptations, with fans eagerly awaiting his future releases.
