September 6, 2025: Ashish Kapoor, a well-known TV actor, was arrested by the Delhi Police on Wednesday in connection with a rape allegation and has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the Tiz Hazari district court on Saturday. Kapoor, recognized for his roles in popular TV shows such as Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Saraswatichandra, faces serious charges after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at a party in Delhi.
The woman, who initially claimed that Kapoor raped her inside a washroom during a house party in the second week of August, changed her statement later. The FIR filed against Kapoor originally named him, his friend, the friend’s wife, and two other unknown persons. However, the woman later revised her statement, accusing only Kapoor of the assault.
The incident reportedly took place at a gathering Ashish Kapoor hosted after connecting with the woman through Instagram. According to police, the woman had been invited to a party at a friend’s house in Delhi, where the alleged crime occurred. The woman also alleged that the assault was recorded on video, though the police have not yet recovered any such footage.

Following the alleged incident, the woman claimed that Kapoor’s friend’s wife assaulted her outside the washroom. It was this friend’s wife who later made the PCR call to report the matter, prompting an investigation by Delhi Police.
On Friday, Ashish Kapoor underwent a medical potency test at AIIMS, which authorities say will serve as crucial evidence in the case. The Delhi Police have stated that the report from this test will be pivotal in determining the outcome of the investigation. Kapoor had been on the run for three weeks before his arrest in Pune.
The case has been registered under sections related to rape and assault at the Civil Lines police station in Delhi. Kapoor’s arrest comes after multiple weeks of investigation, during which police gathered statements and evidence related to the incident.
