Alia shared her excitement about her invitation to be a member, and she wrote her views in details about her views on social media, and how movies binds people on her Instagram post. She wrote: I thank the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for inviting to be member of the Academy. I feel once honoured and humbled.
She added, There is also deep satisfaction in seeing that the voice of Indian Cinema is finding a very well deserved platform on the world stage. Every year more actors, filmmakers and technicians from India are recognized by the Academy and Indian Cinema continues to reach the hearts and homes of people all over the world. I truly believe cinema like water, finds its level, and like water it knows no race, class, border or geography and flows freely.
Furthermore the actress said, it takes everything in its course audiences who passionately love or hate it, critics who dissect it, students who immerse themselves in it. Our opinions about films may be divided but cinema as a whole is powerful binding and undying force. In a world that can be unsure and fragmented, at a time when the very social media that is meant to connect people ends up dividing them , movies are glue that binds us.
The list also includes prominent actors like Ana De Armas (Knives Out), Brian Tyree Henry (If Beale Street Could Talk), Florence Pugh (Little Women), Lakeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) and Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians). Directors like Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Ari Aster (Midsommar), Terence Davies (The House of Mirth) and Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake) are also on the list.
Academy president David Rubin said in a statement, “The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travellers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now.”
If the invitees accept the invitation, they will have the voting privileges at the 93rd Academy Awards which will be held on April 25 next year.
