Siva’s most recent direction Annaatthe feels like it has been made with one single idea, to thrill Rajinikanth fans, but there is absolutely no sparkle in the movie which fans of the megastar would have expected, the equation between the director, the lead actor and his co-stars seems to fade away from the word go.
What is surprising is that why the megastar is not able to pin down scripts what works for his fans, which he is a master , he lends himself totally to a movie which is full of cliché, full of action that could have been left out and he would have convinced the director to focused on bringing something new to the theatres.
In spite of all the huge publicity, hype around Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe winds up as a film that you would like to forget the moment it ends and you walk away from the theatre.
Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe will not only disappoint fans but also him
Annaatthe Story and Review : Rajinikanth plays Kaaliyan, a town president who just withdraws from and moral decency, in Annaatthe. His reality rotates around his sister Thanga Meenakshi, played by Keerthy Suresh.
At the point when she gets back in the wake of finishing her schooling, Kaaliyan transforms her appearance into an excellent festival.
During the celebrations, a few individuals from the family feel that it’s an ideal opportunity to get Meenakshi hitched, and they pass on something similar to Kaaliyan.
Uncertain of the idea, Kaaliyan talks with his sister about the thought, and she lets him know that it’s his choice that matters the most to her.
Meenakshi gets hitched and moves to Kolkata where she faces some obscure dangers. Exactly when she feels things are leaving her hand, her sibling goes to her guide.
Annaatthe because not a single scene stands out. The film is bogged down by the highly melodramatic scenes between Rajinikanth and Keerthy Suresh which usually end in either of the characters crying. In scenes where they aren’t shedding tears, it’s the audiences who are left to suffer. Some amount of realism in the key scenes between these characters would have helped the film stay more engaging.
It’s alright to make megastar commercial film with Rajinikanth but Annaatthe is just the kind of film you should never attempt to make. Also, Siva’s crazy idea of having so many characters is senseless when you forget most of them when you walk out. It was disheartening to see actors like Khushbu and Meena being side stepped in silly roles that absolutely have no purpose. Is it that they just want to be in Rajinikanth Film without a purpose?
Rajinikanth is earnest as always but there’s not much that he could do to salvage the film. When the story shifts to Kolkata after a dreadful first half that’s mostly filled with scenes between Rajinikanth and Keerthy, the film gets even more painful to sit through, courtesy of the roles played by Jagapathi Babu and Abhimanyu Singh, who play the antagonists.
For all those who complained Darbar was Rajinikanth’s weakest film in recent years, they’ll feel nicer that this film beats that film for being even more weaker as they step out of Annaatthe.
