As Sikandar explained, “Robert De Niro is my father’s favorite actor. And when he got the chance to work with him in Silver Linings Playbook, there was a moment during rehearsal when De Niro thought that my father shouldn’t be in the scene at all.” This led to a confrontation that would make any actor nervous, especially when facing a Hollywood icon.

Sikandar continued, “De Niro believed that my dad’s character didn’t belong in the scene and that it wouldn’t make sense for him to be in the house. But my father wasn’t having it. He stood his ground, went straight to the director, David O. Russell, and gave him a piece of his mind in front of the whole cast — Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Chris Tucker, Robert De Niro. He passionately explained why his character had to be in the scene, holding onto his self-respect, regardless of the massive stature of those around him.”
What followed was a pivotal moment in the film’s production: “The director turned to De Niro and asked, ‘Bob?’ De Niro nodded, and just like that, my father got his place in the scene,” Sikandar recalled.
