October 31, 2024: In a sparkling Diwali 2024 special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, took viewers to Agneepath era. The audience were treated to a memorable reunion with the cast and directors of Citadel: Honey Bunny, Varun Dhawan, and the creative duo Raj & DK. The evening was filled with nostalgia as Bachchan not only welcomed the guests but also took the audience on a journey back to his iconic role in Agneepath.
Bachchan surprised everyone by delivering a powerful monologue from Agneepath, a film that marked a significant milestone in his career and earned him his first National Film Award for Best Actor. As he recounted his experiences while shooting the film, he revealed an intriguing anecdote about the challenges he faced with his voice modulation. “I had to re-dub the entire film overnight because audiences didn’t appreciate my new voice,” he shared, illustrating the pressures of meeting fans’ expectations.
Varun Dhawan Says Amitabh Bachchan Agneepath Iconic Movie
Varun Dhawan, visibly inspired, expressed his admiration for Bachchan’s legendary portrayal of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, stating, “The movie is still incredible, and your character is iconic.” Raj & DK chimed in, acknowledging Bachchan’s influence across generations: “You’ve been a hero for so many that even new actors try to capture your style.”
In a curious moment, Dhawan asked, “What was on your mind when you took on the character of Vijay? How did you decide on the voice modulation?” Amitabh revealed that the process was largely unplanned. “On the first day of shooting, I hadn’t figured out how to portray him. I suggested giving Vijay a distinct, deep voice, inspired by a man who visited Kalyanji-Anandji’s home. Little did I know he had an underworld background, which perfectly suited Vijay’s character.”
Reflecting on the film’s tumultuous release, Amitabh recalled the chaos in theaters, where fans reacted strongly to the initial voice. “The producer called to say there was mayhem. People were tearing up seats and demanding, ‘This doesn’t sound like Amitabh!’ To address this, I had to re-dub the whole film in my normal voice, but that initial voice left an impact,” he said, his tone echoing the film’s dramatic essence.
The evening reached a crescendo when Varun requested, “Sir, could you deliver that dialogue for us? The audience is missing that iconic voice.” With a nod, Amitabh re-enacted the scene, eliciting a standing ovation from the audience and guests alike.
As the episode concluded, it was clear that the magic of Agneepath continues to resonate, not just in the hearts of fans but also in the admiration of a new generation of actors.
