Fans of Black Mirror, the popular sci-fi anthology series, can finally rejoice as the Black Mirror Season 6 opens on Netflix in June 2023. The teaser, which dropped on April 26, gives viewers a sneak peek into what they can expect from the upcoming season, including new cast members and more episodes than the previous season, with each episode being more than an hour long.
The teaser trailer opens with Aaron Paul walking through a space station, followed by Salma Hayek seen talking to someone with eerie music playing in the background. Paapa Essiedu is also featured in a furry white jumpsuit, while Anjana Vasan’s character is seen smashing a woman’s head into a glass display case. The teaser promises more violence and surprises in the latest season.
Black Mirror has always been known for its standalone episodes, but with the addition of Aaron Paul in Season 6, it could be a continuation of the first episode from Season 4, where he was the voice of Gamer691. This would mark the first time that Black Mirror has done a direct follow-up.
“The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable, and unexpected yet,” reads the show’s logline.
Black Mirror Season 6 Holds Great Promise: Salama Hayek, Aaron adds muscle
Apart from Aaron Paul and Salma Hayek, several other celebrities have been roped in for Season 6, including Annie Murphy, Ben Barnes, Michael Cera, and Zazie Beetz.
The makers of the show have already revealed that Season 6 will have more episodes than the previous one, with each episode being more than an hour each. This is great news for fans who have been eagerly waiting for the show’s return since the last season in 2019.
Black Mirror was initially launched on Channel 4 in the UK, and it aired two seasons before Netflix took over and produced three more seasons and an interactive special. The show is spearheaded by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, who work exclusively with Netflix under their Brokes & Bones banner. Apart from Black Mirror, the duo has also produced Attack of the Hollywood Cliches!, Cat Burglar, and Death to 202X.
The entire sixth season of the series was filmed using the working title Red Book. Though tracking production for Black Mirror has been challenging due to the anthology format of the show, local reporting has provided some insights into the production process for specific episodes within the season.
According to The Olive Press in June 2022, one of the episodes was shot in Costa Del Sol, with filming taking place in various locations, including San Pedro, Marbella, Estepona, and Loasur Studios in Coin. This report was corroborated by Sur In English, which stated that “the platform [Netflix] has been filming a series on the Costa del Sol.”
With the promise of more surprises, violence, and an unpredictable storyline, fans of Black Mirror can’t wait for the series to return in June.
