MUMBAI, February 8, 2026: Anurag Singh’s patriotic juggernaut, Border 2, has officially stormed into the coveted ₹300 crore club. On its 16th day of release, the war drama, featuring a multi-generational cast led by Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Diljit Dosanjh, achieved the milestone on its third Saturday, proving that the nostalgia of the 1997 original still holds immense currency with the Indian masses.
The Romeo Threat: Will Shahid Kapoor’s New Release Halt Border 2
The film’s trajectory has been a fascinating study in front-loaded performance followed by a sharp reality check. Border 2 opened with a thunderous Republic Day weekend, leveraging nationalistic fervor to rake in ₹295 crore net in its first two weeks alone. Its January 26 haul of ₹59 crore remains the single-highest day for any film in 2026 so far.
However, the third week told a different story. Mid-week collections dipped significantly, with daily earnings slipping below the ₹3 crore mark as urban centers shifted focus. A timely “weekend jump” on Day 16 saw the film collect approximately ₹4.25 crore net, pushing its cumulative domestic total to ₹301.50 crore.
Globally, the film is performing like a true heavyweight. With an India gross of ₹355 crore and an overseas contribution of ₹55 crore, Border 2 has surged past the ₹410 crore mark worldwide. While these figures cement its status as a “Plus” hit, its reported production budget of ₹275 crore means the film needs to maintain a steady tail to yield significant profits for its producers, JP Dutta and Bhushan Kumar.
Border 2 vs Mardaani 3: War Epic Dominates with ₹410 Cr Worldwide
As Border 2 enters the top 20 highest-grossing Hindi films in history, its path to the ₹350 crore mark is fraught with competition. Next week sees the release of Shahid Kapoor’s gritty anti-hero thriller, O Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Given the hype surrounding the Shahid-Vishal collaboration, O Romeo is expected to capture the lion’s share of screens, potentially ending Border 2’s dominant theatrical run.
Trade analysts expect Border 2 to add another ₹15–20 crore before it concludes its journey, likely settling at a lifetime haul of around ₹325 crore.
Mardaani 3: A Steady Hold
In the shadow of the war epic, Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3 continues to find its footing. The cop thriller has crossed the ₹40 crore mark globally in eight days. Domestically, Shivani Shivaji Roy’s third outing has netted roughly ₹31 crore, showing decent stability in multiplexes despite the massive Border 2 wave.
