New Delhi, April 3, 2024 – The Delhi High Court ruled in favor of celebrity chef Kunal Kapur, granting him a divorce on Tuesday, citing the cruelty inflicted upon him by his estranged wife. The court condemned the wife’s behavior, stating it lacked dignity and empathy towards Kapur.
The decision came as a culmination of Kapur’s appeal, challenging the denial of divorce by a family court. The High Court emphasized that hurling reckless, defamatory, and humiliating allegations against a spouse in public constitutes cruelty, marking a violation of matrimonial sanctity.
Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, presiding over the case, remarked, “When such is the nature of one spouse towards the other, it brings disgrace to the very essence of marriage.”
Kunal Kapur and his estranged wife entered matrimony in April 2008 and welcomed a son into their lives in 2012.

Highlighting the significance of mutual respect within marriage, the High Court underscored that conflicts are inevitable but should never transform into disrespect or disregard for a spouse’s feelings.
The court denounced the unsubstantiated claims made by the wife, affirming Chef Kunal Kapur’s reputation as a hardworking and determined individual. “These are mere allegations made by the respondent to disrepute the appellant in the eyes of the court,” the bench stated.
