May 15, 2025: Get set to relive the cinema’s giant Dadasaheb Phalke journey. In a cinematic collaboration set to make waves, Bollywood’s perfectionist Aamir Khan and ace director Rajkumar Hirani are reuniting after over a decade for a landmark biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the trailblazer known as the Father of Indian Cinema.

The film, currently untitled, is scheduled to begin shooting in October 2025, with Aamir Khan taking on the monumental role of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, the visionary behind India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra (1913).

Back with a Blockbuster Team

Having previously delivered genre-defining hits like 3 Idiots and PK, this marks the third cinematic outing for the Khan-Hirani duo. The long-anticipated reunion is already generating buzz across the industry and among fans.

Sources reveal that Aamir will dive into intense prep for the role after wrapping up his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. “It’s a role rooted in history, artistry, and emotion. Aamir is known for deep immersion into his characters, and this one demands nothing less,” a close source noted.

Dadasaheb Phalke :A Legacy Worth Telling

Dadasaheb Phalke was more than just a filmmaker; he was a movement. His pioneering spirit gave birth to what would grow into the world’s largest film industry. The film aims to trace his artistic struggles, innovations, and triumphs — set poignantly against the backdrop of India’s freedom movement.

Over four years in the making, the script has been crafted by Rajkumar Hirani himself, along with long-time collaborator Abhijat Joshi, and writing duo Hindukush and Avishkar Bharadwaj.

Adding authenticity, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, Phalke’s grandson, has provided invaluable anecdotes and personal stories, enriching the narrative with emotional depth.

Bridging Past & Present with AI and VFX

To recreate the early 20th century with precision, top VFX studios from Los Angeles have been roped in. Utilizing AI-generated visuals, the film promises to transport audiences into a world where cinema in India was born from scratch — with nothing but raw creativity and indomitable will.

The production team is committed to capturing the period detailing and cultural texture that shaped Phalke’s times — ensuring a cinematic experience both visually stunning and historically accurate.

Honouring a Giant of Indian Cinema

Instituted in 1969, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is Indian cinema’s highest honour. This biopic aims not just to tell a story, but to immortalize a man whose vision gave India its first screen heroes, legends, and dreams.

With Khan and Rajkumar Hirani at the helm, the film is poised to become a landmark tribute to an icon whose life mirrors the evolution of Indian storytelling itself.

Coming Soon: As the countdown to October 2025 begins, cinephiles and critics alike are already calling this a potential masterpiece in the making. Stay tuned for further updates on casting, teasers, and behind-the-scenes exclusives.
