Wednesday, March 18 2026: MUMBAI: Dhurandhar 2 has arrived, but the controversy is just beginning. Aditya Dhar’s highly anticipated magnum opus, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, officially stormed into cinemas today for preview shows, but not without a heavy-handed intervention from the censors.

Despite securing an ‘A’ rating, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly “trimmed the fat” off the film’s brutal action sequences, sparking an immediate firestorm among fans who claim the Indian theatrical experience has been diluted compared to the uncut overseas version.

The leaked CBFC report reveals that the board demanded 21 major modifications, specifically targeting the film’s visceral violence. Key deletions include:

  • Beheading & Kicking: A full 24 seconds of a gruesome execution sequence was wiped clean.
  • Extreme Trauma: Visuals involving “eye smashing,” “hitting heads with cement blocks,” and “hammer strikes” were significantly trimmed.
  • The Clock: These cuts leave the Indian version with a runtime of 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 36 seconds—roughly 6 minutes shorter than the international cut.

Fan Backlash on Dhurandhar 2 Censor : “Why the Censorship for an Adult Film?”

Social media erupted as the certification details went viral. Disappointed fans are questioning why an ‘A’ rated film, explicitly meant for adults, requires such extensive sanitization. “CBFC gives an A rating, yet Dhurandhar 2 is censored in India while overseas it’s uncut,” one viral post lamented. The move has reignited the long-standing debate over the CBFC’s role as a “certifier” versus a “scissor-happy” gatekeeper.

Box Office Juggernaut: ₹46 Crore Opening Looming

Cuts or no cuts, the audience is showing up in droves. Dhurandhar 2 has already locked in a massive ₹41.24 crore in gross advance bookings. With blocked seats factored in, the film is pacing toward a staggering ₹46 crore opening day haul.

Starring a powerhouse ensemble including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Yami Gautam, the film is being released nationwide in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
