July 20, 2024: Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, celebrated for his sold-out performances across Canada and the USA, is now under scrutiny as allegations emerge regarding unpaid wages to background dancers during his ongoing Dil-Luminati Tour.
A controversy erupted when prominent Los Angeles-based entrepreneur Rajat Batta, who also owns several dance institutes, took to social media to criticize Dosanjh’s management. Batta alleged that despite Diljit Dosanjh’s success and adulation within the Desi community, the background dancers on the Dil-Luminati Tour were expected to perform without any compensation. This sparked a debate about the treatment of Desi dancers within the entertainment industry.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Batta expressed pride in Dosanjh’s achievements but voiced disappointment over the alleged exploitation of Desi dancers. He emphasized the integral role dancers play in the entertainment ecosystem and called for fair compensation, stating, “It’s really disappointing to see an artist of this caliber cut corners by stepping on throats of Desi Dancer industry.”
Responding to the accusations, Dosanjh’s manager, Sonali, issued a statement denying any direct involvement with Batta or his fellow choreographer Manpreet Toor, who also criticized the situation online. Sonali clarified that neither Batta nor Toor were officially associated with the Dil-Luminati Tour.
