Mumbai, May 27, 2025 – Tensions surrounding the much-awaited sequel Hera Pheri 3 took a deeper turn this week, following actor Paresh Rawal’s unexpected departure from the film. While speculation and controversy swirled online, Akshay Kumar addressed the situation for the first time publicly, taking a firm stand in support of his long-time co-star.
Speaking during the trailer launch event for Housefull 5 in Mumbai, Kumar responded to a reporter’s blunt question regarding Rawal’s exit. The journalist referenced online chatter branding Rawal as “foolish” for walking away from the iconic comedy franchise.
Kumar quickly rebuked the use of the term, stating, “Let’s not use such a word for Paresh ji. I’ve worked with him for over three decades. He’s not only a fantastic actor but also a close friend. I respect him immensely.”
Refusing to delve deeper into the legal intricacies, Kumar emphasized, “This isn’t the platform for such discussions. It’s a serious issue now under judicial review, and the court will decide the next steps.”
The emotional response came on the heels of a brewing legal conflict. Akshay Kumar’s production house, which recently acquired the rights to the Hera Pheri franchise from original producer Feroz Nadiadwala, reportedly filed a lawsuit against Rawal following his abrupt exit.
However, Rawal’s legal team has pushed back, stating that the actor was not provided with the agreed-upon script, screenplay, or a finalized agreement—all of which were allegedly promised as part of his involvement.
Don’t Call Him Foolish’: Akshay Defends Paresh Rawal
Veteran director Priyadarshan, who is helming Hera Pheri 3, also expressed dismay at Rawal’s decision, revealing, “It came as a huge shock. Akshay was emotionally affected as well—he had tears when he heard the news.”
The fallout has stirred nostalgia and disappointment among fans, many of whom associate the trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal with the franchise’s enduring charm. The three actors most recently collaborated on the yet-to-be-released horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla, also directed by Priyadarshan.
With the matter now moving through legal channels, the fate of Hera Pheri 3 remains uncertain. Despite the professional disagreement, Kumar’s public defense of Rawal has struck a chord with fans, reinforcing the mutual respect between the two artists.
For now, audiences can only wait to see whether this much-loved comic duo will reunite on screen—or if this chapter marks the end of an iconic partnership in Bollywood comedy.
