September 16, 2024: FX’s ‘Shogun’ made history at the Emmys 2024 Awards, setting a new record with 18 wins in a single season. Following its 14 Creative Arts Emmys wins just a week earlier, ‘Shogun’ extended its lead by sweeping top categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, and earning accolades for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai in the Lead Actor and Lead Actress categories, respectively. Meanwhile, ‘The Bear’ continued its dominance in the comedy genre, winning 11 Emmys and surpassing its own previous record of 10 awards last year.

This year’s ceremony, delayed from 2023 due to Hollywood’s strikes, brought TV’s biggest stars together at the LA Live Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles for a night of both repeated victories and surprising upsets. Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach of ‘The Bear’ reprised their wins in the Lead Actor and Supporting Actor categories in a Comedy, while Liza Colon-Zayas earned her first Emmy for Supporting Actress.

Jean Smart of ‘Hacks’ claimed the Lead Actress in a Comedy title and also took home the Outstanding Comedy Series Award, edging out the highly anticipated frontrunner, ‘The Bear.’ Additionally, ‘The Bear’ was recognized for Best Directing in a Comedy Series, thanks to Christopher Storer.
