C U Soon is a thriller all the way: Creatively made during the difficult pandemic time , the story kicks off when Jimmy meets Anu on an online dating website and decides to marry her. Jimmy’s mother entrusts his cousin Kevin to get details about Anu. Now its Kevin’s turn to search for his cousin’s fiancee who vanished without a trace, only to discover dark, shocking truths about her.

Fahad brings in a terrific energy in this Onam Special film, all shot, done under lockdown. the free-flowing virtual action that keeps you hooked through C U Soon, featuring Fahadh Faasil in the role of a cyber sleuth investigating the disappearance of a cousin’s girlfriend in Dubai. The film, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, is an instant eye hooker.

It is a unique film, creatively made under difficult circumstances in the pandemic time, a lesson for film makers to do things even in challenging time. Written, directed and edited by Mahesh Narayanan, the Malayalam  movie, is pivoted around computers and smartphones. It is a simple story of love, loss and retrieval in a socially-distanced, quite eye-opening and consistently effective.

C U Soon’ with its minimalist approach and solid storytelling proved once again Malayalam films believe in strong content, even big budget Malayalam movies like Lucifer had a solid story-line. Content is the King in this industry.

The full feature film was shot and released during Covid pandemic time, when the industry across India was stand still, C U Soon team thought to work with least crew members and released the film on Amazon Prime a day after Onam.

C U soon has three main characters— Fahadh Faasil as Kevin,  Roshan Mathew as Jimmy, Darshana Rajendran as Anumol Sebastian and MacBook, Google Duo, Google Map, Gmail, WhatsApp, iPhone, YouTube, Facebook, and many digital platforms each one has an important role.

A feel of watching a Hollywood movie, when Kevin moves from one digital platform to another in an ease to get that hidden information.

C U Soon begins with Jimmy, who works in the UAE, is searching for a match on Tinder and finds Anumol, and they begin to chat. The chats move from Tinder to Google Hangouts. Jimmy feels she is so perfect in a few days of chat conversation and wants to marry her.

He gives the girl a surprise by bringing his mother and cousin during a chat conversation and proposes to her. But he forgets to check on how one cannot have a sim or a WhatsApp connection, he doesn’t probe all these, and is ready to marry her. Kevin, his cousin, an IT expert comes in and checks her credentials and gives a go ahead.

The movie revolves around a dramatic depiction of human trafficking, cybercrime, privacy breach, fake social accounts, dark web and goes on.

C U Soon explores how quickly the present generation tends to open up and divulge information and how fast things can escalate in an online relationship. It shows how much we depend on digital platforms and apps these days.

It was told that the entire film was shot in an apartment near Kochi with an iPhone, never to miss a quick outdoor scene during the climax. C U Soon will make you realise that we all are so naked in this digital world, everything about us is hooked somewhere and anyone around the world can fetch it.

C U Soon is intriguing, dynamic behind the backdrop of a virtual world we live in.

What makes the movie beautiful, engaging is its absolute, uninterrupted audience attention, despite the limitation of a full fledged movie production, the movie the thrills you with  a mystery-laden tale.

Fahadh Faasil, as always, derives strength and thrives on his expressive performance. Roshan Mathew excels in his role as a smitten young man to becoming a victim of circumstances partly of his own making but wholly beyond his control. Darshana Rajendran, playing a role of vital significance, delivers a moving portrayal of a girl of many shades.
