Adipurush controversy doesn’t cease to exist. In a recent revelation, Gajendra Chauhan, renowned for his portrayal of Yudhishthir in BR Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat, opened up about his perspective on director Om Raut’s controversial film, Adipurush, which draws inspiration from the revered Indian epic, Ramayana.
Chauhan, also a former Chairman of the esteemed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), expressed his reservations about the movie, citing poor visual effects (VFX) and objectionable dialogues featuring Hindu gods as the primary reasons for the audience’s outright rejection.
I don’t want to compromise my beliefs – Gajendra Chauhan adds fuel to Adipurush Controversy
Despite acquiring a ticket, the seasoned actor disclosed that he consciously chose not to watch the film. He firmly declared that his conscience refused to permit him to endorse or partake in an experience that compromised his deeply held beliefs. Even prior to its release, after viewing trailers and short clips, Chauhan discerned that Adipurush lacked the qualities that would make it worthy of his viewership. “I don’t want to compromise my beliefs. I want to see Lord Ram as Lord Shri Ram,” he emphasized during an interaction with a prominent news portal.
Chauhan went on to suggest the presence of a profound conspiracy behind the film, claiming that its creators aimed to tarnish the legacy of the Indian epic and corrupt future generations. In a poignant message directed at Bhushan Kumar, the head of T-Series, he urged him to safeguard the sanctity of religious sentiments, urging him to approach these matters with the same level of earnestness that his late father, Gulshan Kumar, exemplified throughout his career. Chauhan stressed the significance of nurturing and preserving cultural heritage, particularly when it pertains to revered figures like Lord Ram.
As controversies surrounding Adipurush continue to garner attention, Gajendra Chauhan’s firm stance against the film adds an intriguing dimension to the discourse. His unwavering commitment to his personal convictions and his call for protecting religious sentiments resonates with those who share his concerns about the impact such portrayals may have on future generations. With the spotlight now turned toward the T-Series head, Bhushan Kumar, the responsibility to address these concerns in a manner befitting the reverence and respect for religious icons has become increasingly paramount.
