February 26, 2024 : The legendary ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas bid farewell to this mortal world today. The maestro, known for his soul-stirring melodies, succumbed to a prolonged illness at the age of 72.

Pankaj , a Padma Shri awardee, etched his name in the annals of Indian music. His velvety voice resonated through timeless ghazals and soulful ballads. From the haunting “Chitthi Aayee Hai” to the evocative “Chandi Jaisa Rang,” Udhas’s renditions touched hearts across generations.

Daughter Nayaab Udhas Confirms the News

His daughter, Nayaab Udhas, shared the somber news on Instagram, saying, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to prolonged illness.”

Udhas’s musical journey began with his iconic ghazal album “Aahat” in 1980. He continued to weave magic with hits like “Mukarar,” “Tarrannum,” and “Mehfil.” His soul-stirring rendition of “Chitthi Aayee Hai” from the film “Naam” remains etched in our collective memory.

In 1990, Pankaj collaborated with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar for the duet “Mahiya Teri Kasam” in the film “Ghayal,” a chartbuster that echoed across the nation. His collaboration with Sadhana Sargam on “Na Kajre Ki Dhar” for the film “Mohra” was yet another gem.
