November 8, 2025: Actor Gouri Kishan isn’t backing down. At a recent press conference for her upcoming film Others, she called out a journalist for body-shaming her, and she’s making sure the conversation doesn’t get swept under the rug.
During the event, YouTuber Karthik asked her co-star Aditya Madhavan and director Abin Hariharan whether Gouri’s weight affected romantic scenes and casting decisions. Gouri immediately challenged the question, labeling it sexist and inappropriate. The moment went viral, and the fallout has been swift.
“Nobody was listening to me,” Gouri Kishan says. “He kept saying, ‘I never called you fat, I just asked your weight.’ Why do you want to know my weight? I play a doctor in the movie—a pivotal role in a medical thriller. So many plot points revolve around my character. But they didn’t want to know any of that.”
Gouri Kishan’s Viral Clapback Exposes Media Misogyny
Instead of apologizing, Karthik doubled down in an interview, claiming it’s “normal” to ask actresses about their weight, height, and age. Gouri fired back on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Some people just never learn. It’s unfortunate that one’s own ignorance and age-old chauvinism can so easily define their personality.”
What stung even more? The silence in the room. Gouri Kishan said no one from the film’s team spoke up for her. “They were ready to let it go. That’s how this gets normalised,” she said. “Being a woman, you don’t get to speak out. But I have the agency to speak up, and I will.”
She later released a press note urging people not to harass the journalist, but to move forward with “empathy, sensitivity, and respect.” She thanked those who supported her and reiterated why commenting on someone’s appearance is never okay.
Gouri’s stand is resonating far beyond the press room. It’s a wake-up call for the industry, and a reminder that women in film deserve respect, not scrutiny.
