Govinda Naam Mera Review is quite simple with a easily predictable story, it leaves very little for entertainment. The movie might hold great promise with an impressive star cast – Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar, who portray roles that they never ventured out before in their career, but the weak storyline and even weaker direction fails these actors, who probably want to deliver their best to their fans and the audience.
The story revolves around Govind A Waghmare aka Govinda (Kaushal) is a background dancer, who wants to be a choreographer. He is juggling a ‘hotty’ wife Gauri (Pednekar) at home, and has an extra marital affair with his ‘naughty’ girlfriend Suku (Advani). When not going back and forth between his women, Govinda is devising some mischief with his lawyer friend (Amey Wagh) or taking care of his wheelchair-bound aai Asha Waghmare (Renuka Shahane), who is desperate to get her late husband’s property back. There’s a bungalow, worth crores in the heart of Mumbai city, which has multiple claimants.
Then there, is an in between funny courtroom scenes and lawyers trying to make sense of evidences, there’s a murder and a theft and that’s when the plot shifts and we see the story unfold. But it happens at such a pace and manner that it never gives you nail-biting moments. After the first 40 minutes you are still trying to figure out what really is happening and what are the narrative is all about.
While streaming platform movies don’t let us know when the interval of the film really is, regular theatre-going audience can easily make out when and where the first half ends.
Soon after the second half begins, it becomes highly predictable, and you don’t need to really guess what could have happened, who would have done it and invariably your intelligence as a movie buff you wont go wrong in your judgements. It is disappointing the script turns so easily predictable it leaves you rather disheartened.
Govinda Naam Mera Review : A movie that fails to amuse you barring a song and a surprise cameo
The writer probably felt overwhelming confident that lines by Vicky Kaushal , ‘Pighal jayega bhai, baraf ki thaili hai’. is funny, alas not at all, even Advani’s introduction scene wearing a yellow saree giving full-on Tip Tip Barsa feels and jiving to ‘Maang Meri Bharo, Pyaar Mujhe Karo’ looked sizzling but then it wraps up too soon.
Pednekar on the other hand in those cliche satin nighties didn’t make any impression either. Performance wise, all these three actors did sink into the characters but with a story so meaningless, there’s only so much even you can bring to the table. The saddest part is Shahane who didn’t deserve this lame part to portray.
Govinda Naam Mera is quite a chaos, attempting to make you laugh and enjoy a seamless drama, but it fails to do so. Other than the leading trio, we see a Crime Patrol obsessed Manju bai (Tripti Khamkar), Gauri’s boyfriend Baldev (Viraj Ghelani), an insurance policy guy and a corrupt Inspector Javed (Dayanand Shetty).
No thriller is complete without villains, so we have a parallel plot running with businessman Ajit Dharkar (Sayyaji Shinde) and his son Sandeep aka Sandy (veteran actor Ranjit’s son making his debut). With too little time to impress, they leave the screen before you even realise it.
But there is a consolation, you will truly enjoy the Bijli song, a two-minute cameo by Ranbir Kapoor hogs the limelight.
