‘Hundred’ Review; A Rip Roaring Swagger Cop Lara Dutta, Rinku Saga
Hundred. We give a 100, for the writer giving women in grey a lot to cheer. Their strength, style, and mindset dealing with life, domestic, and office situation. It is a cop saga that does keep you entertained as one would expect.
In Hotstar’s latest Hotstar specials series Hundred, dialogues from a woman policeman rattle ‘Ghanta farak padta hai’ and the way she manipulates people to pump up her career through the ranks in her department, is quite well scripted and noteworthy. It is a debut that creates lot of impact and both Lara Dutta and Rinku surely seem to have milked it with oodles of commitment. They are impressive.
Even super star Salman Khan seem to love it .
The story
ACP Saumya Shukla (Lara Dutta) is completely repelled of the sexism she has to encounter at her workplace every day. She challenges the system repetitively, only to be tangled in a deeper muddle each time she tries. She also has to deal with her over-protective husband Pravin (Sudhanshu Pandey) who is also a cop (belonging to a different wing) too.
As we get immersed in ‘Hundred’ Saumya in the middle of operation gets to meet Netra Patil (Rinky Rajguru), a down the line government personnel working in the census department, surviving the last phase of her life at work. And, how the dubious duo shatters the glass ceiling is the story.
Hundred does extremely well in highlighting the frustration the widespread sexism in the law enforcement agency, work in general. Saumya is confronted with a situation where people perceive her as the model of the department – appearing in social events, leading flash-mobs in public spaces, and bike-rides proving gender equality.
Saumya has a so-called imperfect husband Pravin, but she also has a younger dude Maddy, a rapper who is struggling in life. But, Pravin does make repeated attempts to make the marriage work despite indifferences with his wife.
Netra, on the other hand, lives with men who take her for granted – a television soap obsessed father, a bindass younger brother, and a chill grandfather. Interestingly there is also an Aamir Khan like character- gunning for Netra love while Netra is attracted to Shantanu – heir to an underworld empire.
Hundred is loaded with all that we get to watch these days on Television, Crooked politicians, media debates, affairs, scams, and drive you to episodes that feature a political scam that the protagonist uses to her benefit.
We find a lackluster romance between Netra and Shantanu but Saumya does pull off the scene with a wholehearted attempt. The writing is quite good in a few of the scenes where Soumya interacts with a politician in front of a kid. You do get some pleasurable moments watching Netra’s escapades.
Lara Dutta comes out thumbs up when she brings out her swagger side. She essays her role with conviction playing the part of applying mind games and using people to fulfill her self-centered comforts. Sairat girl Rinky Rajguru too – brings a refreshing energy to Hundred.
Hundred is a woman’s heavyweight series. Other actors in the web series Rajeev Siddhartha, Sudhanshu Pandey, Parmeet Sethi, and Karan Wahi play their part well too. The music blends smoothly with the storytelling in each episode. Hundred is quite a time pass, even though you might question some scenes that may be exaggerated. But is an entertaining show.
