April 12, 2025: Jaat is in theatres. After riding high on the historic success of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol’s Jaat, a pan-India action drama directed by Gopichand Malineni and backed by South Indian powerhouse Mythri Movie Makers—known for the Pushpa franchise. But despite the star power and cross-industry collaboration, Jaat is yet to ignite similar box office fireworks.
On Day 3, Jaat registered its highest single-day collection yet, earning ₹10 crore on Saturday. This follows a modest opening day of ₹9.5 crore and a dip to ₹7 crore on Friday, bringing its three-day domestic total to ₹26.5 crore, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.
Jaat : A Slow Start Compared to Gadar 2’s Historic Run

To put the numbers in perspective, Gadar 2—released in 2023—had collected a staggering ₹134.88 crore in its opening weekend, eventually crossing ₹525 crore in India alone. That puts Jaat at more than 3X behind Gadar 2’s weekend performance, suggesting a steep hill ahead for the action film.
Tough Competition in a Crowded Release Window
Adding to Jaat’s challenge is stiff competition from Sikandar, the Salman Khan–AR Murugadoss action thriller which has pulled in ₹108.45 crore so far. With Sunny’s Jaat yet to cross even the ₹30 crore mark, analysts predict it may struggle to hit ₹100 crore, a benchmark for mid-to-big-budget Bollywood films.
The coming week will make or break Jaat’s momentum, with two new Hindi releases entering the fray:
- Kesari 2 – A courtroom historical drama starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions
- The Bhootnii – A horror flick headlined by Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, and Sunny Singh
Sunny Deol Speaks on Craft, Anger & Emotion
Speaking about his role and the emotional range he brings to his characters, Sunny Deol shared in an interview:
“Har cheez ek emotion hoti hein. Gussa tab aata hai jab kuch tang karta hai. Woh phase jab aata hai, character khada ho jata hai aur ladta hai.”
Deol emphasized his commitment to authenticity, saying,
“We are actors and we are supposed to make whatever character we play believable. I indulge in the moment. When it feels real, we’re satisfied.”
While Jaat may not replicate the thunderous numbers of Gadar 2, the film reflects Sunny Deol’s willingness to step into new cinematic territory—even if the box office response remains uncertain.
