October 21, 2026: Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 continued its strong run at the box office on Tuesday, October 20, collecting ₹45.55 crore in net domestic revenue on its sixth day in theatres. The film has now accumulated ₹287.80 crore in India net collections, while its worldwide gross has reached ₹541 crore, according to figures reported by trade tracker Sacnilk.
Released on October 15, the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel has maintained a sizeable theatrical presence as it approaches the end of its opening week. Its latest daily collection came from 15,529 shows across different language versions, with the Tamil release accounting for the largest share of the business.
Tamil Version Leads the Day 6 Collections
The Tamil version remained the primary driver of Jailer 2’s domestic performance, collecting ₹31.20 crore from 7,828 shows on Day 6. The Telugu version followed with ₹8.75 crore from 2,293 shows.
The Hindi version contributed ₹5 crore from 5,230 shows, while the Kannada version added ₹60 lakh from 178 shows. The Hindi release has faced a distribution setback in northern markets, where PVR INOX theatres did not screen the film amid a dispute over the film’s digital release window.
At the end of six days, the film’s India gross collection stood at ₹337 crore, with its net domestic earnings reaching ₹287.80 crore. Its reported worldwide gross total stood at ₹541 crore.
Rajinikanth’s Sequel Draws Praise for Its Entertainment Value
The film has received positive reactions from several viewers and critics, particularly for its mix of action, humour and music. However, some criticism has focused on the screenplay, especially the second half.
The sequel turned out to be an engaging commercial entertainer, highlighting Rajinikanth’s screen presence.
The response reflects the film’s central appeal: a familiar action-driven narrative built around Rajinikanth’s enduring star power and the return of a character who made a strong impression in the first instalment.
A Star-Studded Cast Returns to the Big Screen
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 continues the story established by the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. Rajinikanth returns as Muthuvel Pandian, the former jailer whose family and personal life draw him into dangerous confrontations.
The sequel features Ramya Krishnan, S. J. Suryah, Mohanlal, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty, among others. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music, Vijay Kartik Kannan handled cinematography, and R. Nirmal served as editor.
The original Jailer, released on August 10, 2023, became a major commercial success and established the foundation for the sequel. With Jailer 2 now past ₹500 crore in reported worldwide gross collections, its performance over the coming days will be closely watched as it moves beyond its first week in theatres.
