April 9, 2025: Comedian Kunal Kamra, known for his fearless comedy and sharp commentary, has been at the center of a heated controversy following his recent stand-up show. Kamra’s parody song about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ignited a firestorm, culminating in FIRs, legal summons, and even death threats. Amidst this uproar, Kamra has now shared a surprising revelation about a potential appearance on the popular reality show Bigg Boss, leaving many shocked.
In a recent Instagram post, Kunal Kamra uploaded a screenshot of his conversation with a Bigg Boss casting director, where he was approached to join the show. The message, sent by the casting director, stated, “I am handling the casting for this season of Bigg Boss and your name came up as someone they might find interesting. I know it might not have been on your radar, but honestly, it’s such a mad platform to show your real vibe and win over a massive audience. What do you think? Should we talk about it?”
The director’s message hinted that the Indian standup comedian and political satirist unique persona could resonate with the Bigg Boss audience, offering him a chance to showcase his true self on a massive platform. However, Kamra’s response was anything but enthusiastic. He responded bluntly, “I would much rather check into a mental hospital…” along with a humorous reference to a song from Salman Khan’s film Radhe, signaling his clear reluctance.

While the comedian’s rejection of the Bigg Boss offer comes as no surprise given his outspoken nature, the controversy surrounding him remains significant. His critical remarks about Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, delivered during a comedy performance in Mumbai, have sparked legal and public backlash. Kamra was subsequently summoned by the police, and an FIR was filed against him for alleged defamation and creating public mischief.
Amid the backlash, the standup comedian and political satirist revealed that he had received approximately 500 death threats, which prompted him to flee Mumbai for his home state of Tamil Nadu. He has since taken legal action, securing interim protection from arrest by the Madras High Court. The court has extended the case’s date to April 17, 2025.

Adding to the drama, the ticketing platform BookMyShow came under fire when Kamra publicly requested they not “delist” him following the controversy. In response, BookMyShow clarified that “facts have been misrepresented,” defending their position in the matter.
Despite the mounting pressure, Kamra has remained defiant, refusing to apologize for his comments. His unapologetic stance has resonated with many supporters, while others continue to criticize his approach to comedy and public discourse.
Whether Kamra will ever consider a reality TV stint on Bigg Boss remains uncertain, but his candid response to the casting offer has left fans and critics alike talking.
