December 19, 2024: Ottappalam, Kerala – Malayalam cinema mourns the loss of veteran actress Meena Ganesh, who passed away on Thursday at her residence in Ottappalam at the age of 81. The talented actress, whose career spanned over four decades, breathed her last while undergoing treatment for a stroke at a private hospital in the town.

Meena Ganesh’s passing has left a deep void in the Malayalam film industry, where she was known for her powerful performances in over 200 films, 25 television serials, and numerous stage plays. Her versatility as an actor allowed her to shine in a wide range of roles, from comedies to intense dramas, earning her a beloved place in the hearts of moviegoers.

Debuting in 1976 with P. A. Backer’s Manimuzhakkam, Meena quickly became known for her remarkable screen presence. Throughout her career, she was part of several critically acclaimed films, including the much-loved Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum (starring Kalabhavan Mani), Karumadikuttan, and Nandanam. In a tribute to the actress, B. Unnikrishnan, General Secretary of FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala), said, “Meena Ganesh’s contribution to Malayalam cinema is immeasurable. She brought her characters to life with a unique blend of charm and depth. Her work, spanning over 200 films, touched various generations of audiences.”

The FEFKA Directors Union also expressed their sorrow, highlighting her memorable performances in films like Meeshamadhavan and Karumadikuttan, which resonated with audiences and critics alike.

Meena Ganesh was married to the eminent playwright and director N. N. Ganesh, a Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner. Their son, Manoj Ganesh, has carved a name for himself in the television industry as a respected serial director and a member of the FMTV Directors Union.
