April 15, 2025: Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, known for her elegance and candour, has offered a refreshingly honest take on her grandson Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut film ‘Naadaniyaan’, which has been under scrutiny since its release. While the film, co-starring Khushi Kapoor, failed to impress both critics and audiences, Sharmila’s grandmotherly perspective brought both warmth and realism to the conversation.
In a candid interview with Anandabazar Patrika, Sharmila Tagore didn’t mince words when asked about Ibrahim’s first big-screen outing. “Sara and Ibrahim are doing a wonderful job. Ibrahim’s film was not good, but he still looks very handsome. He has tried his best,” she shared, striking a delicate balance between encouragement and critique.
Sharmila admitted that while such comments are often avoided in public, she believes in calling a spade a spade:

“These things shouldn’t really be said in front of everyone, but honestly, the picture isn’t great. Ultimately, the picture has to be good.”
Ibrahim, son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, was praised for his screen presence but the film itself—‘Naadaniyaan’—was criticized for its awkward dialogues and weak performances, prompting widespread trolling on social media.
Sharmila also spoke highly of her granddaughter, Sara Ali Khan, highlighting her dedication to the craft.

“Sara is a good actress. She works very hard and is capable of doing a lot more. She’ll also achieve that.”
Meanwhile, Soha Ali Khan, Ibrahim’s aunt and actress herself, weighed in with advice during a separate interview, saying:
“One needs to develop a thick skin if they want to be a part of the industry.”
While ‘Naadaniyaan‘ may not have marked a strong beginning for Ibrahim, with family like Sharmila and Soha offering both critique and support, the young actor seems to have the foundation he needs to learn, grow, and improve in his cinematic journey.
