Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, is now streaming on Amazon Prime. To watch even existing subscribers need to pay rent ( as an early access ) feature and eventually it will be free for subscribers – Rentals include 30 days to start watching this video and 48 hours to finish once started. The platform says it is coming on November 4 which will be free from rentals.

PS1 is biggest hit from the film czar’s stable, the movie which opened in theatres worldwide on September 30 got rave reviews and turned out be a blockbuster and generated lot of money at the box office, and continues to do so.

The good news is that this film is now available on Amazon Prime Video under the ‘Early Access’ feature. This means that even existing subscribers need to rent the flick to watch it.

Ponniyin Selvan will eventually be available to all existing and new Amazon Prime Video subscribers from November 4. This means that it will be available to OTT more than a month after its theatrical premiere. Ponniyin Selvan is a period drama, which had the line of some of the biggest actors and actress of our time including Chiyan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha and many other big names.

This film is among the recent films that makes a faster break into OTT than holding on to the theatrical shows. OTT rights of Ponniyin Selvan I, also known as PS I, was bagged by Amazon Prime Video in September at an undisclosed amount.

According to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan Mani Ratnam movie grabbed Rs 500 crore at the global box office, PS I is a part of the two-movie franchise mounted at a massive budget of around Rs 500 crore. Second part of PS I is likely to arrive in the summer of 2023.

Ponniyin Selvan I focuses on the early years of Raja Raja Chola I, also known as Arulmozhivarman and a coup planned by the Pandyas to overthrow the Cholas. The Mani Ratnam-directorial is based on the novel of the same name by Tamil litterateur Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film features Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi in significant roles.

Ponniyin Selvan sequel is expected to open in theatres in a few months from now. This was Mani Ratnam’s first major release after the gangster drama Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018), which featured Arvind Swami and Jyotika as the lead pair.

Music composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Ravi Varman and editor Sreekar Prasad comprise the technical crew.
