In a bizarre turn of events, a Tamil news portal recently circulated a fake news story claiming that Kannada movie star and politician Divya Spandana, popularly known as Ramya, had passed away due to a heart attack. Fortunately, this shocking news is entirely false.

Ramya is currently safe and sound in Switzerland, and she even shared a photo of herself with journalist Chitra Subramaniam during a meeting in Geneva to dispel the rumors. Despite this, some TV channels picked up the baseless story and ran unsubstantiated reports regarding her alleged demise.

The former Lok Sabha member, Ramya, had recently opened up about her struggles with suicidal thoughts, emphasizing the significant emotional support she received from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Her candid revelation about her mental health journey had garnered significant attention from the public.

Earlier today, social media users began sharing the fake news, causing panic among Ramya’s devoted fan base. Journalist Chitra Subramaniam quickly stepped in to clarify the situation, confirming that Ramya was very much alive and well.

In a subsequent tweet, Subramaniam revealed that Ramya had plans to travel to Prague and then to Bangalore shortly. Here is the tweet

Ramya is alive and in Geneva

Another journalist also dismissed the rumors, asserting that the news was entirely fabricated.

As the false news spread like wildfire, the hashtag #DivyaSpandana began trending on social media platforms, with concerned supporters desperately seeking to confirm the truth. Thiru. KT Lakshmi Kanthan, Chairman of Congress’ IT Cell, lashed out at the rumors, branding them as “100% wrong” and assuring the public that Ramya was alive and in good health.

The origins of these death rumors remain unclear, but some supporters have speculated on a possible theory. Dhanya Spandana shares her name with the wife of prominent Kannada actor-director Vijay Raghavendra, Spandana, who tragically passed away in Bangkok last month. It is possible that the confusion surrounding these similar names may have triggered the false reports.

Ramya, who made her debut in the film “Abhi” in 2003 alongside Puneeth Rajkumar, has had a successful career in the Kannada film industry with notable films like “Amrithadaare,” “Jothe Jotheyali,” “Mussanje Maatu,” and “Just Math Mathalli.”

After her tenure as a Lok Sabha MP from Mandya, she has made a comeback to the film industry. Her latest venture, “Uttarakaanda,” is the first production from her newly established Apple Box Studios and has been directed by Rohith Padaki.
