Ranbir Kapoor has raked up a new controversy, as he expressed his desire to work in a Pakistan film. He made this statement at the Red Sea International Film Festival last week. In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the actor was speaking about his fifteen-year career.
The actor also received the Variety International Vanguard Actor Award from the festival. Ranbir was asked about acting in different industries while he was present on a panel and in the audience.
The actor was responding to a question asked by Pakistani filmmaker, in the audience, if he was open to acting in the production if it was set elsewhere. He shared that in the last six years, Indian and Pakistani artistes have been banned from acting in each other’s industries. The filmmaker said, “Now we have a platform like Saudi Arabia where we can jointly do films, I would love to sign you for a film. Would you be willing to work with the Pakistani team along with your team in Saudi Arabia?”

Ranbir Kapoor without hesitation said, “Of course, sir. I think there are no boundaries for artistes, especially for arts. Many congratulations to the Pakistan film industry for [The Legend Of] Maula Jatt. It is one of the biggest hits we have seen in the last few years. Of course, I would love to.” Their exchange was recorded by another audience member on video.
The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, was released in October. Both Fawad and Mahira have acted in Indian films. While Mahira featured in Raees alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Fawad was a part of Khoobsurat and Kapoor & Sons.
Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in the hit film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, directed by Ayan Mukerji. He was off the big screen for four years after starring in the award-winning biopic Sanju (2018). Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna were also part of the cast, while Shah Rukh Khan had a special cameo. His upcoming films include Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal and an untitled film with Luv Ranjan.

After the film’s big box office numbers, the actor has been in the news for becoming a father. Now, the 40-year-old is back in the headlines and this time due to negative reasons. Ranbir Kapoor’s statement went viral in no time and is now receiving massive backlash from netizens in India. One Twitter wrote, “How shallow their patriotism is …For money ..Kuch bhi”. Another wrote, “Miyan Biwi dono dimag se paidal hai kya. But think about it…Koi #Pakistani Film ka proposal aaya lagta hai and #RanbirKapoor is checking out how people will react… phir yeh fourth fail bolenge humko #GoToPakistan kyu bolte ho.”
