Sardar Movie Review: In one sentence it is a perfect Diwali cracker for Karthi fans. The world of Sardar is introduced with style, emotional intensity, and, ridiculous humorous charm. Karthi plays his roles to perfection, in this Mithran directorial. Karthi in a double role, is impressive.
In the film that revolves around water and the water business, we are introduced to Inspector R Vijayaprakash, an effective and efficient police officer who craves internet celebrity. He is stomping through Chennai and trending on Twitter about the cops — for good reasons, mind you. Soon, it becomes clear that this is more of an overcompensation than a character trait. Vijayaprakash has been informed that his father, R&AW spy Sardar, betrayed the nation and that his entire family committed suicide as a result of this stain on their name.
When he submits an application fo join the police force he must sign a document renunciating his father and his legacy. He pursues a present that is so vibrant and loud that you cannot look beyond it in order to divert attention from his past.
Sardar Movie Review: Karthi excels in his double role
On Twitter, actor Karthi stated that it is his most ambitious film project. He also says that this film is dedicated to the unsung heroes of India, as most spies die nameless and unacknowledged deaths.
The movie follows his investigation into how Sardar was falsely accused with the aid of Shalini, a lawyer with a strong activist conscience who is his crush (Rashi Khanna). This is not a pleasant or growing love. It is a still pool, and eventually the movie loses interest in it. They have been friends for years, according to what we know.
Water is the pivotal subject of the movie and everything that goes around it. How businesses are putting this water, a public good, in plastic bottles and charging us outrageous prices for it, killing kids in the process. With footage from Bolivia and the Philippines, where water battles have claimed the lives of civilians,
Sardar, like any eat-the-rich, self-respecting Tamil film, connects this to bigger cultural problems. Not only are water wars impending, but also the way the movie presents this moral monologue makes this combination of country names powerful.
