Sholay of Comedy Jagdeep Leaves Iconic Legacy of Soorma Bhopali ; He had perfect comic timing, explosive expression and had iconic dialogues to leave a legacy that will be ageless.

The industry lost an icon, and he will be remembered. Here are some of the reaction from industry stalwarts who remembers him and paid tributes in their own ways. The actor appeared in 400 films.

He will remembered forever for his terrific role in Sholay which is India’s ageless blockbuster movie.

Sharing their nostalgia about his co-star of many films including Sholay and Shahenshah, Amitabh Bachchab wrote on his blog: “Jagdeep .. the actor of exceptional comedic repertoire, passed away .. He had crafted a unique individual style of his own .. and I had the honour of working with him in several films .. the more prominent ones in the eyes of the audience being Sholay and Shahenshah.”

Javed Akhtar expressed he was a great ‘underused’ talent. “Jagdeep saheb had first appeared on the screen as a winsome child Artiste in films like Do bigha Zameen . As a young man he played highly emotional n dramatic roles in films like Bhabi , patang . Comedy was his second successful inning . Great talent , underused . Good bye sir,” he tweeted.

Ajay Devgn :  “Heard the sad news of Jagdeep Saab’s demise. Always enjoyed watching him on screen. He brought so much joy to the audience. My deepest condolences to Jaaved and all members of the family. Prayers for Jagdeep Saab’s soul.”

Veteran Actor and Politician Shatrughan Sinha also shared fond memories with the late actor, Jagdeep who was his neighbour. Sinha tweeted, “Deepest condolences on the sad demise of veteran actor, comedian par excellence, iconic #Jagdeep. He was a great human being & very down to earth. I was not only his neighbour during my initial years but also bought my first car ‘Austin’ from him. I had the privilege of working.”

In a tweet Manoj Bajpayee tweeted, “Rest in peace Jagdeep sahab !! Folded handsThank you for all the memories that I have watching your films and performances in my childhood!! You will be missed by us all!! Condolences to the family!!!.”

He played Soorma Bhopali in Sholay (1975), Machchar in Purana Mandir (1984), Salman Khan’s dad in Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and directed the movie Soorma Bhopali, with his character as the protagonist.[5]

Jagdeep started his film career as a child artist extra in B. R. Chopra‘s Afsana, then went on to do films as a child artist in films like Ab Dilli Door NahinK. A. Abbas‘s Munna, Guru Dutt’s Aar PaarBimal Roy‘s Do Bigha Zamin and AVM‘s Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke. After Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke, he received various accolades and high praise for his roles. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru has gifted his personal staff to Jagdeep for his stellar performance in Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke.

Jageeep was launched as a leading man by AVM in the films BhabhiBarkha and Bindaya, and went on to do a few more films as a leading man. He established himself as a comedian since the movie Brahmachari. Some hit songs are picturised on him like “Paas baitho tabiyat bahal jayegi” from Punarmilan, “In pyar ki rahon mein” from the same film, “Chal ud ja re Panchhi” and “Chali Chali re Patang”, from the superhit movie Bhabhi, where he is paired opposite Nanda, and “Aa Gaye Yaaro Jeene Ke Din” from Phir Wohi Raat.
