On Friday morning, the mortal remains of Vijayakanth were transported to Island Ground, Anna Salai, where they will be laid for public homage from 6 am to 1 pm. This gesture has provided an opportunity for the public to bid their final farewells to the revered figure.
Expressing his condolences, actor Rajinikanth remarked to the media via ANI, “We will never get a person as good as Vijayakanth. In politics and cinema, there is no one like him. This loss is irreplaceable.”

Transitioning into politics, Vijayakanth founded the DMDK and was twice elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly, representing the Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam constituencies. His leadership and commitment to public service have left a significant impact on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
The news of his demise drew tributes from various quarters. Fellow actors like Vijay paid respects, and political figures including Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister Ranipet R Gandhi, and DMK organizing secretary RS Bharathi visited the DMDK office to honor his memory.
Captain’s recent hospitalization at MIOT Hospital in Chennai due to COVID-19 complications had garnered widespread concern. Despite medical attention, the veteran actor and politician succumbed to the illness, marking the end of an era.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow at the loss, acknowledging Vijayakanth’s multifaceted persona. In a statement, PM Modi remarked, “His passing leaves a void that will be hard to fill. He was a close friend and I fondly recall my interactions with him over the years. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, fans, and numerous followers. Om Shanti.”
