The National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in, directing the director general of police in Tamil Nadu to take legal action against actor Mansoor Ali Khan for his alleged derogatory remarks about his ‘Leo’ co-star, Trisha Krishnan. The commission has invoked IPC Section 509 B, citing concerns about remarks that are perceived to normalize violence against women.
Responding to the backlash, Mansoor Ali Khan took to social media to address the controversy, asserting that his comments had been misconstrued. He clarified that his intention was to praise Trisha Krishnan’s role in ‘Leo,’ likening it to the significance of Hanuman lifting a mountain. According to him, certain statements were edited and taken out of context, leading to the ensuing controversy.
Mansoor Ali Reiterates his admiration for Trisha
In a press interaction, Mansoor Ali Khan reiterated his admiration for Trisha’s role in ‘Leo’ and expressed regret over the misinterpretation of his comments. He emphasized that he holds immense respect for women and highlighted his history of working professionally with actresses without any issues.
In a written Tamil post on social media, he lamented the misunderstanding, stating that his words were being manipulated for political agendas to hinder the progress of his films. He defended his character, citing his contributions to society and reiterating his commitment to respecting women.
The actor’s initial comments, which included expressions of disappointment about a scene absence with Trisha and references to past roles involving sensitive themes, drew severe condemnation from various quarters, prompting the NCW’s intervention and sparking widespread controversy.
