Twitter bans Kangana Ranaut , Twitter has announced that Kangan’s account which has 3 million followers has been permanently suspended by them micro blogging site Twitter for repeatedly violating its rules on hateful and abusive behaviour.

The account was suspended because of a tweet she put out on Monday on the violence in West Bengal after Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress won the assembly election.

In the tweet, the Kangana urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show his “Virat Roop” from the “early 2000s” to “tame” Mamata Banerjee in Bengal. This sparked outrage among Twitter users, who asked the platform to take action against her account.

“We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. According to Twitter’s abusive behaviour policy, users “may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone or incite other people to do so”. Twitter considers abusive behavior “an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice”.

In the teary-eyed harangue, she talks about “disturbing news, videos and photos from Bengal of people being murdered, gang-raped and their houses being burnt”. She also calls for President’s Rule in the state, criticising a “government that I support” for not doing more than dharnas in response to the clashes.

Ranaut has courted controversy on several occasions since her debut on Twitter last year. In January, Twitter put her account in read-only mode for two tweets that allegedly incited violence. At the time, many Twitter users had called for her account to be suspended, accusing her of hate-mongering.

A fortnight later, Twitter removed some of her tweets after she got into a spat with pop singer Rihanna over the farmers’ protests across India. The company had also suspended the account of of Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel for hate speech in April last year.

While some praised Twitter for finally taking action against the actor, many hoped that she would never be allowed to return to the platform.

Meanwhile, the actor has remained undeterred. Responding to Twitter suspending her account, Kangana posted a video on Instagram and termed the move “death of democracy” with hashtags ‘Bengal Burning’ and ‘Bengal Violence’. She further said in an official statement, “Twitter has only proved my point they are Americans and by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person, they want to tell you what to think, speak or do, fortunately, I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice including my own art in the form of cinema but my heart goes out to the people of this nation who have been tortured, enslaved and censored for thousands of years and still there is no end to the suffering”.
