October 13, 2026: Jailer 2 brings an intense screen standoff between Vidya Balan and superstar Rajinikanth, but standing face-to-face with an icon comes with its own real-world nerves.

Filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar recently shared a lighthearted behind-the-scenes memory from the set of Jailer 2, revealing how a heavy sequence on day one left the acclaimed actress visibly unsettled. Designed to position her character as a formidable counterforce to Rajinikanth, the moment called for a bold posture that tested her composure immediately.

Recalling the shoot during a promotional interaction, Nelson shared, “The scene shown in Vidya ma’am’s trailer was the one we had to shoot on the first day. Hers is a powerful character who stands opposite Rajinikanth sir. However, she said she was scared to play such a strong character. When I told her to smoke a cigarette and blow the smoke into Rajinikanth sir’s face, her tension doubled.”

The director admitted that monitoring the initial takes made him wonder whether the sequence would come together as planned.

“When we were taking the shot, I looked at the monitor. Ma’am was holding the cigarette and shaking her hand as if she were applying lipstick. At that moment, I thought this wasn’t going to work. It was only on the third take or so that we got it right. Even now, when you watch the scene, you can see a little tension in ma’am’s eyes,” Nelson added.

While the new installment introduces fresh dynamics, Rajinikanth confessed that he personally missed a key presence from the original film, Tamannaah Bhatia, whose appearance in the first chapter turned into a major highlight.

Speaking during the promotional campaign of Jailer 2 , the veteran actor revealed that he had suggested bringing her back for a musical sequence: “The only missing element in Jailer 2 is Tamannaah. I told Nelson to keep one song for Tamannaah.”
