Friday, March 6, 2026: Well, it seems like even the most focused actors can get caught in a social media whirlwind! Yami Gautam recently found herself in the middle of a bit of a stir after an Instagram “like” on her account seemed to raise eyebrows. The incident, which started making the rounds online on March 5th, involved a reel that appeared to be poking fun at Kriti Sanon’s recent Best Actress win.
In a clear statement shared on her social media, Yami was quick to explain that the “like” was absolutely unintentional. She stressed that it wasn’t meant to criticize or target any of her fellow actors. The reel in question had gotten people talking because it seemed to compare Kriti’s award win with Yami’s own performance in a different film. But according to Yami, the interaction with the post was simply a slip-up.
Yami explained that as a celebrity, she gets tagged in tons of posts every single day. Sometimes, content pops up in her notifications alongside many other tags. She believes this particular reel appeared among other award-related tags, and the “like” was nothing more than an accidental click, not a conscious decision.
Adding to her clarification, Yami also shut down any speculation that this was some kind of publicity stunt. She firmly stated that she has “never resorted to cheap PR tactics” in her career. Yami emphasized that her focus has always been on her work and moving forward, rather than getting caught up in unnecessary drama.
“I have always focused on my work and moved on,” Yami shared. “In the world of clickbait, it’s tempting for even dignified social media portals to harp on this and turn it into coffee-table gossip. But I would hope they would consider that I have earned a better reputation than that.” She also pointed out that she doesn’t have a PR team managing these kinds of situations and has always been open about her views on award shows, preferring to focus on meaningful work instead of seeking validation through accolades.
No “Cheap PR”: Yami Gautam Explains Social Media Mix-Up
For those who might have missed it, the whole thing kicked off when an Instagram reel questioned Kriti Sanon‘s Best Actress win for the film Tere Ishk Mein. The clip compared it with Yami’s performance in Haq and even included a snippet of Yami talking in an older interview about not needing awards for validation. Because Yami’s account had “liked” this video, some users jumped to the conclusion that it was a subtle jab at Kriti’s win.
After the online chatter, Yami stepped in to clear the air, making it clear that the situation had been a simple misunderstanding.
On the professional front, both Yami and Kriti have been busy with their own projects. Kriti was last seen in Aanand L Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein, while Yami recently starred in the courtroom drama Haq. There are also whispers that Yami might be making a cameo in her director-husband Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film, Dhurandhar 2.
