ZEE5 Virgin Bhanupriya Review: Virginity has always been a big deal. Countless cultures have been obsessed with the concept from their beginnings. Yet, many people fail to consider the concept of virginity from different perspectives. But , what ZEE5 Virgin Bhanupiriya is out to prove is that breaking Virginity is no big deal after all, it is a woman’s choice to keep it or not to keep it.
In Short ZEE5 Virgin Bhanupriya Review
The film is about Bhanupriya who by every means want to lose the tag of being a ‘virgin’. For this, she is ready to settle down and marry, or acquire it by force. At one moment she even throws herself onto a man (Gautam) saying, ‘Abhi Nahi Toh Kabhi Nahi’ (Now or never). Gautam Gulati who is essaying the role of Shartiya (Abhimanyu), is the victim of Bhanupriya’s forceful skinship in the reel story.
The lead actor Urvashi Rautela says in her words
“I truly believe people will watch our comedy-drama film, Virgin Bhanupriya, amongst all the releases because it is kind of unique and it is happening for the very first time where the female desire will take the centre stage. Virgin Bhanupriya follows the story of Bhanupriya character who is a conservative girl willing to lose her virginity on her own terms,”
Rautela says, her movie is a taboo subject of virginity
It is simple film. In the movie Rautela’s best friend and mother act as a catalyst in encouraging her for every possible attempt. But an astrologist’s solution to her agony will twist the plot, turning Bhanupriya’s life into a roller coaster ride. It is a fun and straightforward comedy film. Urvashi feels the audience will enjoy Virgin Bhanupriya in the same way as much as Vicky Donor, which became hugely popular.
Virgin Bhanupriya one would not find it as a sex comedy, it is a satire set in a society that views sexual curiosity as scandal. The story is a take on Bhanupriya’s (Urvashi Rautela) father Vijay (Rajiv Gupta) a mere cutout of how a ‘modern day father’ should be. While constantly reiterating that he knows what his daughter is going through during her awakened years, he barely seems to actually make an effort to understand and empathise with her feminine side. May be that is the reason why his own relations with wife Madhu (Archana Puran Singh) hit rock bottom in the first place and how they are now just a bickering couple who stay separately and are even more emotionally distant from their daughter. Nevertheless, Vijay brings comic relief in scenes with the self indulgent nature of his character.
What works in favour of the Rautela’s movie is the buddy angle that plays out between Bhanu and her close friend Rukul (Rumana Molla).
They are unafraid about what they want and will go to any lengths to get it. In simple terms, what it goes to define – if men can, why can’t women? The female characters are strong in their approach and demeanor and yearns for audience eyeballs. Rajiv (Sumit Gulati) is a delightful character and the actor draws your attention with his understated playact.
Ajay Lohan’s direction handles the virginity topic through comedy and with maturity. Even offensive jokes have been dealt subtly. The songs blend well with the narrative and provide entertainment.
Urvashi has handled Bhanupriya with panache as a girl on the lookout for adventures and experiences. Bhanu’s emotional side is well explored in Urvashi’s silences and she leaves space for interpretation of her character.
