So the news is Akshay Kumar’s Atrangi Re in all probability will be an OTT Release. This came as a surprise statement from the actor , who said that OTT might be the best way to go for the film. This marks the second OTT film for Akshay after Laxxmi.
“To be honest, I haven’t yet included Atrangi Re in the list because we are still mulling over whether it should be a theatrical film or an OTT release. And OTT may simply be the medium of choice for Atrangi Re, as it looks right now.,”confirms Kumar.

Talking more about this Aanand L Rai directorial project, which also stars actors Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush, the 53-year-old adds, “Atrangi Re has a fantastic, never-heard-before subject and story line. For me and Anand Rai, it is critical that the most suited platform is chosen for the film.”
This marks the second OTT release of Akshay Kumar after Laxmmi, second for Sara Ali Khan post Coolie No. 1, and the same for Dhanush post Jagame Thandhiram. Meanwhile, Akshay’s next with Aanand L Rai, which is Raksha Bandhan, is set for theatrical release on August 11, 2022.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Atrangi Re is presented by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape of Good Films. The film is written by Himanshu Sharma. Music maestro AR Rahman has composed the album for the film with songs penned by Irshad Kamil.
Following the opening of theatres in Maharashtra post the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, Bollywood superstar announced the updated release dates of five of his films. The star announced the release dates of Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, RakshaBandhan and Ram Setu on social media.
The actor had shot the first two films before the pandemic and was awaiting their release. His spy-thriller, Bell Bottom, also released on theatres last month but suffered from theatres being shut-down in Maharashtra.
