Blackpink Lisa is making waves with her solo songs Lalisa and Money. Lalisa not only shattered records on YouTube, her B-side Money saw the maximum sales for a rap song in the week. It was the No.1 on the Billboard Charts.
After debuting on the U.K. singles chart last week, Lisa’s “Lalisa” has fallen off the ranking of the most-successful tunes in the nation, but it doesn’t vanish from the history books. The Blackpink singer and rapper’s debut solo launch made waves in a number of ways by simply appearing at all, and her place in the chart annals is now secure.
She tied up with BTS’ SUGA and Psy of Gangnam Style fame with that feat of hers. Now, in her Money dance video she has worn braids. It seems the style belongs to the African-American women and it is a matter of cultural appropriation. In the past, Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus have also faced flak for just wearing braids like a costume.
Lisa had an online fansign event for her songs, Lalisa and Money. It seems a fan read out a letter on cultural appropriation to her. It was done in a polite manner and she wanted to educate the Thai rapper. The fansign was supposed to be of 90 seconds but it went on till six minutes. Lisa said she did be more careful in the future and even apologized.
Fans also noticed how she was teary-eyed at the thought that she might have hurt someone with her music. Her fans called out YG Entertainment saying that they should have known better in this matter.
Lisa is Second Solo Female K-Pop Musician To top the UK Chart
It may be difficult to believe, but Lisa is just the second female solo musician who is known for her work in the South Korean music industry to reach the main singles chart in the U.K. In fact, before this year, no artists who fit that description had managed to place anywhere on the 100-spot tally. Lisa follows in the footsteps of her Blackpink bandmate Rosé, whose debut solo single “On the Ground” peaked at No. 43 just a few months ago.
Lisa is a part of Blackpink which has members like Jennie, Rose and Jisoo. The ladies are part of the most famous girl group in the history of K-Pop. Along with BTS, they have taken K-Pop to new heights globally. It is nice to see how Lisa took in criticism and promised to be better the next time round.
Blackpink Lisa apologises for cultural appropriation

Lisa apologized profusely to the fans saying that she had no ill intentions and she is genuinely sorry about it. Lisa also accepted her fault and revealed that she did not realize it was offensive, she then promised to be more careful next time ad to double-check everything.
The Fansign event ended with a very good note after Lisa thanked her fans for calling her out on the box braid issue. Fans are also really happy that Lisa also faced her wrongs and accepted that she was also partially at fault. Many commented that the talented artist is showing maturity by addressing the issue as soon as possible and not ignoring it at all.
So far, all the songs released by artists based in South Korea that have managed to find space on the U.K. singles list have been fairly spread out. 2021 is now the first year to see two different tunes by musicians working alone from that part of the world debut on the tally, with Lisa and Rosé helping make this the busiest year in terms of successful releases. With several months left before 2022 rolls around, there’s no telling who could pop up with a new hit.
