Her directorial debut, “All We Imagine As Light,” clinched the prestigious Grand Prix award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This marks a significant achievement for both Kapadia and Indian cinema.
While “All We Imagine As Light” emerged as a strong contender for the top prize, Palme d’Or, the award ultimately went to Sean Baker’s “Anora.” Nevertheless, Kapadia’s film secured the Grand Prix, making her the first Indian filmmaker to achieve this feat. This makes it the first Grand Prix win for the country and a nomination in the Palme d’Or after 30 years.
