September 18, 2024: An FIR has been lodged against prominent Telugu choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, popularly known as Jani Master, following serious allegations of sexual assault made by a former colleague. The complainant claims that the harassment began when she was a minor and continued over several years.
Jani Master, celebrated for his choreography in blockbuster films like Baahubali and Pushpa: The Rise, is facing accusations of sexual misconduct, including rape and assault. The police have initiated an investigation based on the survivor’s complaint, marking a significant moment in the Telugu film industry.
Jani Master Handed Suspension by Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce for misconduct
In response to the allegations, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) announced on Tuesday that it has established an internal committee to conduct a thorough inquiry. As a precautionary measure, Jani Master has been temporarily suspended from his position as president of the Telugu Film & TV Dance Directors Association pending the investigation’s outcome.
Tammareddy Bharadwaj, a member of the investigative committee, stated, “We received the complaint from the victim 15 days ago. We have recorded the statements of both the victim and the accused. We are in the process of obtaining witness statements.” Bharadwaj, emphasized the committee’s commitment to submit a comprehensive report within 90 days, although they hope to finalize it sooner.
