October 20, 2024: While , Salim Khan says Salman Khan has no reason to apologise to Bishnoi Community as he never killed the blackbuck: ‘Humne cockroach ko bhi nahi maara’ . New revelations have come to light from the family of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged at the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, reportedly spends around ₹35-40 lakh annually to support him in prison, according to a recent expose by his cousin, Ramesh Bishnoi.
Bishnoi combines two Marwari words — ‘bis’ meaning 20 and ‘noi’ meaning 9. These 29 niyamas (tenets) form the origin of the Bishnoi community and govern their lifestyle. These dictate how a Bishnoi will follow personal hygiene, social behaviour, worship, preserve biodiversity and protect animals. The Bishnois were even directed to check if they had not killed an insect in the firewood they used for cooking food.
Despite the family’s substantial wealth and Lawrence’s law degree from Panjab University, the 31-year-old’s trajectory took a sharp turn towards crime, a development they claim they never anticipated.
In a candid disclosure, Ramesh, 50, shared details about the family’s efforts to maintain a certain lifestyle for Lawrence even behind bars. “We have always been wealthy. Lawrence’s father was a constable in the Haryana Police and owns 110 acres of land in our village. Lawrence always wore expensive clothes and shoes. Even now, the family spends ₹35-40 lakh annually on him in jail,” Ramesh told The Indian Express.
The Rise of Lawrence Bishnoi
Lawrence Bishnoi, whose real name is Balkaran Brar, was born in Punjab’s Firozpur district. He acquired the name “Lawrence” during his school years, reportedly upon the suggestion of his aunt, who believed the name “sounded better.” Despite his educational background and family’s financial stability, he gravitated towards criminal activities and gained infamy in recent years.
Bishnoi’s name has been associated with several high-profile cases, most recently the shooting of Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique in Mumbai. Siddique, who shared a close friendship with Bollywood actor Salman Khan, was killed last week, and there are speculations that his association with Khan may have played a role in his murder.
Salman Khan vs Bishnoi International Ties and Legal Scrutiny
The gang led by Lawrence Bishnoi has drawn the attention of law enforcement not just in India, but internationally. Recently, Canadian authorities alleged that members of the Bishnoi gang were involved in violent activities on Canadian soil, allegedly in coordination with “agents” of the Indian government – a claim strongly refuted by India.
The gangster and his associates have also been under the scanner for their alleged role in the assassination of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022. His involvement in these incidents has prompted multiple investigations by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Security Measures and Legal Restrictions
Given the gravity of the cases against him, Bishnoi has been strictly confined to Sabarmati Central Jail. In August 2023, the Union Home Ministry issued an order prohibiting any transfer of the gangster from the prison for any purpose. This restriction was extended for another year, reflecting the high-security concerns surrounding him.
The Bishnoi family’s revelation about the substantial annual expenditure for Lawrence’s jail care sheds light on the contrasting realities of his life – from a well-to-do upbringing to becoming a criminal mastermind commanding significant resources even while incarcerated.
Analysis: A Stark Contrast
The details shared by Ramesh Bishnoi underscore a significant contradiction. Lawrence’s life started with a strong foundation – a supportive family, substantial wealth, and a respectable education. However, despite these advantages, he chose a life that has now led to heavy legal scrutiny, a controversial reputation, and significant financial outlay from his family for his upkeep in jail.
As his criminal activities continue to make headlines, questions linger about the influence of his early life choices and whether different circumstances could have steered him away from crime. The family’s admission of their efforts to support him financially even during incarceration reveals the extent of their commitment but also highlights the toll his criminal lifestyle has taken on those closest to him.
Salman Khan’s Security Beefed Up
After a continuous threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has increased his security measures. Over the past week, headlines across the country have focused on the increasing dangers facing the actor. Reports suggested that Salman has been granted Y-level security and the latest addition to this security arrangement is a bulletproof car.
