Mumbai, November 7, 2024 – Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has become the latest target of a death threat and extortion attempt, after Salman Khan as Mumbai police confirmed an investigation into the chilling incident. The actor, known for his iconic roles in films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Don, received a threatening phone call on November 5, in which the caller demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.
According to authorities, the threatening call was made from a mobile number that was reportedly lost by its registered owner, Faiyaz Khan, on November 2. The owner of the phone had filed a police report about the loss of his device at that time. The individual has since claimed that his lost number was misused by an unknown person to make the threat to Khan.
Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) Faces Death Threat, Extortion Demand of Rs 50 Lakh
“I was informed by Mumbai police today that my lost phone number was used to threaten Shah Rukh Khan. I have already filed a complaint at my local station about the phone being lost,” Faiyaz Khan told reporters.
The extortion attempt was made just days after similar threats were reported against another Bollywood actor, Salman Khan, allegedly tied to the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to Mumbai police, the call to Khan came from someone who identified himself as “Hindustani.” The caller claimed to be standing outside the actor’s residence, Mannat, and warned that if Shah Rukh Khan did not comply with the Rs 50 lakh demand, his life would be in danger.
“I am calling Shah Rukh from Mannat Bandstand. If he doesn’t give me 50 lakh, I will kill him,” the threatening message reportedly stated.
The Bandra police station in Mumbai has registered a case under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown caller. As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
The police investigation has spanned multiple regions, with Mumbai officers collaborating with local authorities in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where the phone number’s owner resides. A Raipur police official confirmed that Mumbai police had issued a notice to Faiyaz Khan as part of the ongoing probe. However, police have yet to verify whether the call originated from Raipur.
Authorities are working swiftly to track down the perpetrators behind this disturbing threat and bring them to justice. The case has raised concerns about the increasing threats faced by high-profile Bollywood celebrities, particularly in light of previous extortion-related incidents involving other well-known stars.
While the investigation continues, Shah Rukh Khan has not publicly commented on the matter. Sources close to the actor say he is cooperating fully with the police.
As Mumbai police continue their efforts to locate the individual behind the threatening call, the public remains on edge, given the escalating nature of threats against prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
