May 18, 2025: “It feels like the end of an era.” That’s the sentiment echoing across social media after legendary actor Paresh Rawal confirmed he’s stepping away from the Hera Pheri sequel. Fans who grew up quoting Baburao’s hilarious one-liners are now left in disbelief, mourning what they see as the heart and soul of the beloved franchise.

Paresh Rawal, who immortalized the role of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he will no longer be part of the third installment of Hera Pheri. Contrary to earlier reports, he emphasized that his departure had nothing to do with creative conflicts.

“I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 was not due to creative differences,” Rawal wrote. “I reiterate that there are no creative disagreements with the filmmaker. I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr. Priyadarshan.”

This message was a clear attempt to quash rumors of internal friction, especially after speculation swirled about the film’s uncertain direction.

The Hera Pheri franchise, which began in 2000 under the direction of Priyadarshan, went on to become a cult classic. With the perfect comedic trio—Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal—the films struck a unique balance of slapstick, wit, and satire. Rawal’s portrayal of the bumbling yet lovable landlord Baburao has long been considered one of the finest comedic performances in Hindi cinema.

The second part, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), built on that legacy, further elevating the characters to iconic status. For many fans, imagining a third film without Baburao is almost unthinkable.

Online reactions range from heartbreak to calls for the project to be shelved altogether. “No Babu Bhaiya, no Hera Pheri 3,” one user declared, summing up the mood.

While the actor is stepping away from the third sequel of Hera Pheri, his cinematic journey continues. Rawal recently wrapped up filming Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy that reunites him with both Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan. The film is set to release in 2026. He’s also part of the ensemble cast in the upcoming comedy Welcome to the Jungle.

Though Baburao may not return, Rawal’s impact on the franchise is timeless. And as the actor moves forward with new projects, fans are left hoping the magic of Hera Pheri can somehow be recaptured—even if the heart of the series is missing.
